Driving footage of the all new Volkswagen Scirocco is very much welcomed by the WorldCarFans newsroom. Hand-brake turns, playing chicken with cops and burn-outs are outright applauded! Throw in a helicopter and secret police (in high heels) and you have us shaking at the knees.

Its all there to promote the new Scirocco which is destined to go on sale late this summer for a starting price of Euro 21,750 (in Germany). All in all an affordable sports car which has finally returned after too long an absence, the original Scirocco ended production in 1992.

Initially four engines will be on offer, three petrol TSI's ranging from entry level 122 hp to the range topping 200hp with 280 Nm of torque. The diesel TDI produces 140 hp with 320 Nm of torque with the range's best fuel economy of 5.4 liters per 100 km.

now, that is the car...although we were expecting 1.9cdti with 180hp, but it seems that it will have 160hp at the begining

opel's official site gmnext2008.com has better ones but you need a password :)

very handsome, much nicer than the Mondeo- classier. However it does look rather like the new Passat CC- no bad thing. The small family class got stylish (except for the Focus) and now its the turn of the large family saloon.

in the video it has alot of 5 series about it

by peterjames7 | April 18, 2008 1:15 PM
i just think that there are too many cars in this car it just looks bad

by BabyMilo | April 18, 2008 8:00 AM
um they fit 19" rims on it, so it looks smaller than it actually is, 17-18" would be more adequate.. anyway, i think it's one of the best looking generic-brand sedans, right behind the new C5

stylish and clean design

I agree with BabyMilo. The first thing I noticed was that this is more of a montage of five or six other cars than a design. The Passat, camry (doesn't deserve to an uppercase in a discussion about design), Sebring, the 7 series and some recently replaced low budget Pontiac all appear in this car. Sculpture and German precision, if the marketing people can say that with a straight face they should do live comedy skits.

its unbelivable how boring that car looks like. simply dull. who designs those opels?! each side of the car looks like from the other model. doesnt it? Opel Insignia. A perfect car for those who dont care how they look like! :-)

I see some 5-series lines and a Hoffmeister kink, (US) Honda Accord, Chevy Malibu, and others. The look is good, but incongruent. The stylized slash on the body side echos no other angle on the vehicle side. The same can be said of the cutline on the read quarter: the line is not parralell to the cutline on the door. Why not? The back end is very busy - too many surfaces, cuts, curves and intersecting lines to be called a "clean" design - the the overall look of the car is nice. I'm sure they will sell.

"The stylized slash on the body side echos no other angle on the vehicle side." Wrong. It actually describes a boomerang shape going back through the rear bumper inferior crease. Pic #3 depicts the hatch version, and for once I find it more appealing than the classic sedan. This is probably the best looking Opel in decades, but needs to be evaluated in person. Where are the interior pics though...

nvm for the pic #3, it was on another sitecom :o

It seems that GM design studios must be employing most of you who did not like the design and did find it looking like 5 or 6 different cars on the market, it is pitty that they do not get the use of your opinions...

YES, the car is looking great, kicks passat and mondeo. And by the way, the boomerang design on the doors, around the foglights, ledlamp integrated in the headlamps & taillamps. Sucsess of course, well done russelsheim..
